President of Emirates Policy Center (EPC), Dr. Ebtesam al-Ketbi, presented the United Arab Emirates’ vision on the role of governance in the national and local agendas, the country’s efforts to enhance governance, and its achievements in this field in the Second International Conference organized by the Saudi National Anti-Corruption Commission (Nazaha), which was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on February 20-21, 2017 under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud. The conference was attended by Emir of Riyadh, Prince Faisal bin Bander bin Abdul Aziz.
In a paper presented to the conference entitled “Governance and its Implications for the Level of Social Welfare in the UAE’s Society”, Dr. al-Ketbi pointed out that the UAE’s record has constantly improved in recent years according to “The Worldwide Governance Indicators” (WGI) issued by the World Bank, such as political stability, government effectiveness, regulatory quality, rule of law, and control of corruption, all of which have put the UAE in the first place among Arab countries in the indicator of government effectiveness in 2015.
Dr. al-Ketbi reiterated that the UAE’s excellent achievements in governance indicators were reflected on the level of social welfare of society, which was evident in the country’s accomplishments in indicators such as the Human Development Index, the World Happiness Index, the Family and Community Cohesion Index, Feeling Safe Index, as well as UAE’s achievements in the indicators of basic services such as education and health.
