In a series of on-line symposiums organized by EPC to foresee the post-coronavirus world, the center will hold its third webinar under the title of Potential Post-Coronavirus Geo-economic Shifts”. The event is scheduled to take place on Monday, May 11, 2020 from 10:00 to 11:15 p.m. local time in the UAE (6:00 to 7:15 p.m. GMT).

Three prominent speakers will participate in the webinar including Dr. Giacomo Luciani, Adjunct Professor at Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva and a renowned expert in Middle East economies and global energy; Dr. Ibrahim Saif, the CEO of Jordan Strategy Forum and former minister of both Planning and International Cooperation and Energy and Dr. Hani Findakly, Vice Chairman of the Clinton Group Inc. in New York and an international expert in investments and development will participate in the symposium. The President of Emirates Policy Center, Dr. Ebtesam Al-Ketbi, will moderate the on-line discussions.

The webinar will try to answer the following questions:

  • What are the prospects of economic contractions due to the coronavirus crisis? What are the economic sectors that are most affected or hit by the current crisis?
  • Who will be the winners and losers during and after the coronavirus crisis? Are we going to witness a high-intensity trade war between the U.S and China?
  • What is the impact of the coronavirus crisis on redefining the concept of conflict as well as that of cooperation/competition between states? Are we going to see a new set of cooperation and economic integration agreements between states or the return of states to protectionism and isolationism?
  • Would the coronavirus crisis have an impact on redirecting of investments, trade movement, and supply chains at the level of both states and big companies? How will the coronavirus crisis affect globalization?
  • What would be the potential impact of the coronavirus crisis on the future of China’s “Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)?
  • What are the potential scenarios for global energy market? What is the impact of the drop in oil prices on the economies of major oil-producing countries and OPEC Plus oil deal?
  • What are the implications of the coronavirus crisis on the economies of the Middle Eastern countries? How would this reflect on the regional geostrategic environment in the aftermath of the coronavirus crisis?
