The President of Emirates Policy Center, Dr. Ebtesam Al Ketbi, signed her recently published book titled “The UAE Power-Building Model and Foreign Policy Shifts” on the sidelines of the 30th edition of Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF) that will be held during the period 23-29 May 2021. The signing ceremony was attended by a number of intellectuals, journalists and visitors of ADIBF.

In her book, Al Ketbi argues that the UAE represents the ideal subject for a case study of a small country’s response to the strategic challenges and shifts. “Global and regional geopolitical contexts in the Middle East since the early 21st Century have driven the UAE to introduce radical changes in its foreign policy and the model in building comprehensive national power be it hard or soft”, she explained.

The book sheds light on the factors and indicators relevant to the emergence of the UAE as an active regional actor. This is an endeavor to chart, analyze and predict the foreign policy path of the UAE and its approach to power-building through discussing a number of relevant issues and topics, notably: shifts in the UAE’s power-building model; the impact of volatile geopolitics on UAE foreign policy; the UAE–US “burden-sharing” strategy; the UAE's regional threat perceptions; the diversification of its regional and international partnerships; and the various internal factors and pillars that have shaped the Emirati model since the founding of the union on December 2, 1971.

The book came out as the UAE celebrates in 2021 the Golden Jubilee of its formation as a federation.
