The assessment analyzes how the Muslim Brotherhood has used religion politically to consolidate its rule through the religious symbolism of the president’s movements and speeches, the political use of mosques and religion in political struggles, and the extensive employment of religious edicts and statements and for justifying political stands. The assessment concludes that this kind of use of religion might tarnish the image of religion itself and increase tension between al Azhar and religious scholars loyal to the regime.
