Hamdeen Sabbahi’s Chances in the 2014 Presidential Elections

The assessment monitors factors in favor and against Hamdeen Sabbahi in the upcoming presidential elections. The following are factors in favor of Sabbahi: • His achievements in the 2012 presidential elections, • His experience in working with masses, • Introducing himself as the nominee of the revolution, • The possibility of gaining support by the Muslim Brotherhood and Islamists. Factors against Sabbahi: • Lacking experience as a civil servant or working in decision making circles, • The military establishment’s skepticism towards him. The assessment says that Sabbahi has more chances of winning in face of political and independent figures, and less of a chance in front of a civilian candidate who enjoys the support of the army, and has no chances at all in front of Field Marshal El Sisi.
