The Brotherhood and al Azhar: The Possibility of a Clash in Light of a Turbulent Background

The analyses provides a thorough reading of the tense relationship between the Muslim Brotherhood and al Azhar in the wake of the food poisoning incident on the campus of al Azhar University on April 2013. The analysis referres to the politicization of the incident by the Muslim Brotherhood which held the Grand Imam of al Azhar responsible for it and staged protests against him. The analysis assesses that the hostility of the Brotherhood against the Grand Imam was due to his part in leading forces against the Muslim Brotherhood’s project. The analysis reiterated that al Azhar’s realization of the danger of drawing it into the political game will stop it from adopting more hostile stands against the Muslim Brotherhood.
