The assessment embarks upon the reasons behind the debate surrounding the Suez Canal development project, introduces the government’s outlook on this project, its political importance and reasons that drive the president and the government to adopt it. Also, the assessment touches upon criticism and stumbling blocks facing the project, such as threat to national security, granting ownership to foreigners in Sinai and the spread of Jihadist militant movements in the region. Furthermore, the assessment says that the project would become a state within the state, as well as doubts about Qatar’s role and the future of governance and the state. The assessment says it is more likely that there will be no agreement regarding the project.
