Post-June 30th: The Political Role of the Army and the Military-Civil Relations

The assessment reviews the complicated calculations of the army on June 30, in light of the bitter experience after one year of protests against the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces. The assessment points out that despite the army’s statement on June 30th that was conclusive in affirming that the armed forces will remain out of politics; still, there are factors that underscore the importance of the political role of the army in the next stage. The assessment suggests the following two scenarios for the military establishment’s relation with politics: • The indirect approach; • The direct military rule.
