Iran's Attempts to Infiltrate “Hamas” and Redesign its Leadership Hierarchy

Iran exerted pressure and used several political maneuvers to force Hamas to adopt the Iranian choice. The regional developments contributed in forcing Hamas to restore its ties with the so-called “axis of resistance” amid fierce internal struggle. While Tehran tries to dictate its terms on Hamas before resuming financial and military aide, the movement maneuvers to keep its initial stand regarding the Syrian crisis. But space for maneuvers is narrowing down in front of Hamas and the next round of talks must carry real concessions by Hamas. Iranian websites talked openly about Tehran’s intent to infiltrate Hamas and support some factions of its military and political leadership as opposed to the approach of Khaled Mashal, head of Hamas politburo.
