Foreign Intervention and Improving Terms of Negotiation for the Brotherhood

EPC | 01 Aug 2013

This assessment analyzes the aspects of foreign intervention to press the new post-June 30th regime in Egypt. The assessment points out that the main reason behind this intervention is Washington’s loss of the Brotherhood as a strategic ally in the region. The assessment concludes that this intervention aims to support the political stance of the Brotherhood, improve their bargaining terms with the new regime and show the ruling regime in a weak position, and its inability to take decisions, especially in light of the long periods of strikes and demonstrations by members and supporters of the Brotherhood.
