Egyptian-Iranian Ties in the Wake of the Geneva Agreement

EPC | 01 Dec 2013

This analysis touches upon the Geneva agreement between Iran and P5+1 and highlights that Cairo remained tight-lipped at the official level, despite the limited improvement in the Egyptian-Iranian ties, when former President Morsi was in office. The analysis underscores the importance of Cairo’s political and diplomatic action through the following three alternatives: • The bilateral level by eliminating what tainted the Egyptian-Iranian ties and restore diplomatic ties between the two countries; • Raise legitimate concerns about the security of Egypt and the Gulf as a result of this agreement; • Cairo can work along with GCC countries to reactivate the initiative, which was adopted by the Arab Summit in Tunisia in 2005, regarding the dialogue with Tehran.
