Clout of the New Wave of Revolutionary Protest Movements

EPC | 01 May 2013

This assessment analyzes demands made by the Rebellion Movement and the favorable political environment in which this movement has emerged. The assessment explains the most important characteristics of this new protest wave and how it saved the weak and confused political opposition from its predicament. The emergence of this movement provided Egyptian youth with vitality, although it had suffered the same problems faced by the youth revolutionary movements in Jan. 2011, notably: • The priority of action and activism without a well-defined intellectual or political program, • The refusal to work under the banner of another party or group, • The lack of a comprehensive political program.
