The Future of Sinai After Deposing Morsi: More Terror or Restoring Stability?

EPC | 01 Jul 2013

This assessment analyzes the situation in Sinai during the Brotherhood’s era and the active terrorist groups there. The assessment concludes that there are three possible tracks for the confrontation with these groups: • The army succeeds in reining in terror and directs severe blows to terrorist groups, • An escalation of terrorist activities against the backdrop of the continuation of the current stance of the Muslim Brotherhood, • Indecisiveness in light of the army’s inability to eliminate terrorist groups in a clear way due to the vast area of Sinai and its tough geographical nature, notably the caves and the terrain that help these elements to easily hide.
