The Elite's Calculations on How to Deal with the Brotherhood’s Sit-ins

EPC | 01 Aug 2013

The analysis outlines the calculations of the elite and the state on how to deal with the sit-in of the Muslim Brotherhood in Rabiaa al Adawiyah square. The analysis affirms that the delay in breaking up the sit-in intended to exhaust the movement, expose it to public opinion and ensure support for the decision ahead by the elite and society. On the other hand, the situation gave the impression that there are two heads for the state, which enabled the movement to reorganize internally and open the door for enlisting the Global Muslim Brotherhood against the state. The analysis concludes that it is likely that the state will decide its position based on the urgent factors within those complicated calculations.
