Significance of Iran’s Position on Deposing Former Egyptian President Mohammad Morsi

EPC | 01 Jul 2013

Disparity of the official Iranian stands, which were announced by Iranian foreign minister on the issue of toppling former Egyptian President Mohammad Morsi, raised questions about the reality of Iran’s position on this issue. To understand the reality of this stand, we must present the parallel official position, which clarifies the revolution/state duality ruling Iran. The parallel official stand was more clear and consistent than the official stand announced by the foreign minister and reflected a state of relief by Iranian leadership on deposing Morsi, while the declared official stand has cautiously welcomed the developments in Egypt. It also cautiously condemned the “military’s intervention in changing governments” and tried to balance the two stands in order to not burn bridges.
