“Al Khosous” and the Cathedral Incidents: Internal and External Reactions

The alert points to signs of sectarian sedition in Egypt in the early days of April 2013, when bloody clashes erupted between Muslims and Copts in front of Saint George’s church in the town of al Khosous. The alert reiterates that these incidents showed that the presidency was not able to take prompt and fast decisions during crises. The alert calls for the need to enhance the role of initiatives, which were introduced to ease sectarian tension such as al-Azhar’s “Egyptian Family Home Initiative” and carry out serious and prompt legal and criminal investigations into this incident.
