Overview

Emirates Policy Center (EPC) on May 14, 2018 convenes a symposium that deals with the impact of the crisis in Qatar and the outcomes of Doha’s obstinate policy since the start of a boycott by the Arab quartet (Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt) on June 5, 2017. The symposium will also tackle the sweeping consequences of the sanctions on Qatar.

The symposium will focus on four themes: first, the political cost of sanctions and specifically Qatar’s declining role and soft power; second, the impact of sanctions on Doha’s economy and how sustainable are the Qatari measures to face these sanctions; third, Qatar’s fake news during the crisis and its role in aggravating the crisis; fourth, the future trajectories of the crisis and options of both sides.

The event aims to complement and deepen the discussions of the symposium EPC initiated on Sep. 25, 2017 that was entitled “Qatar’s Unilateral Policies: Assessment of the Political Risks of Doha’s Ambitions.”
